Hardway Green Public Space Protection Order

This petition is to urge Gosport Borough Council to implement a PSPO at Hardway Green area to deal with the seasonal anti-social behaviour.

Local residents and users of the Hardway Green have suffered many years of anti-social behaviour from young people congregating at Hardway Green during the summer. Gosport Police have had their resources cut and due to the unpredictable nature of the problem (i.e. when the sun shines!) have not been able to prioritise dealing with the problem.

Gosport Council have for years ignored this area of the town and the problems that occur.  In June 2017 a residents action group was formed and came together to highlight the problem to the authorities and seek action to effectively deal with the issues permanently. Details Here: The Hardway RAG

Because there are no boundaries set around the behaviour of these young people  this area is out of bounds for the majority of the community during warm summer weather.  Additionally we fear that one day soon a young person will be seriously injured in the harbour water off the green because of the authorities failure to take effective action.

Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs), introduced in 2014, sit amongst a broad range of powers and tools to help tackle anti-social behaviour locally. PSPOs are aimed at ensuring public spaces can be enjoyed free from anti-social behaviour.

Activities that have taken place at Hardway Green have had a detrimental effect on the quality of life of those in the locality, and these are likely to continue, albeit seasonally.

We believe a public space protection order (PSPO) will force the authorities to focus on the problems in this area and seek a permanent resolution.  A PSPO lasting up to 3 years will break the cycle of this annual problem, return this public area to the community and bring an end to the summer misery of local residents.
