Help the Housing Crisis in Provincetown before it's too late

Provincetown is in a housing crisis. Our Community Center is identified in the Provincetown Housing Playbook as an asset that can be used for housing. In 2011 Town Meeting voted to sell the building. Instead of selling, or using the building for our much needed housing, the Board of Selectmen are instead about to enter into a 99 year lease for $2,000. per month, to a private Arts Center.
There is an article on the April 3, 2017 Town Warrant to nullify any leases and fulfill the 2011 Vote. However, this Monday, March 13, 2017, the Board of Selectmen are meeting at 6pm and the Town Manager has on his agenda to enter into a lease agreement for our Community Center. Just 21 days before Town Meeting, the Town Manager wants to “seal the deal,” and not let the Voters decide, as was our Vote, the fate of the Community Center, instead signing a 99 year lease for a below market rate of $2000. per month.
I therefore ask for your help.
By signing this petition, you are asking the Board of Selectmen to not further enter into any binding agreements regarding our Community Center until after the April 3, 2017 Town Meeting vote on Article 17, regarding the sale, not lease, of the Community Center, and to not attempt to sign any leases just days before Town Meeting, thereby committing our Town asset to an Art Center and not our desperately needed housing. We believe town assets should be used for our housing crisis.
