In just two years under Columbus Governorship through murder, mutilation, being worked to death or suicide more than half the 250,000 Indians in Haiti were dead
- Howard Zinn

Haiti under the Spanish is one of the primary instances of genocide in Human history... Columbus not only sent the first slaves across the Atlantic, he sent more slaves than any other individual.
- James Loewen

Does Google want to celebrate this genocide? While Google claims to be committed to diversity on their website, they also recognize there is more work to be done. Tenley Hough, Google Calendar top contributor stated "There are billions of Google accounts in the world". Many of these users utilize the Calendar function and if Google really wants to show their commitment to diversity, and inclusivity, they will switch this holiday. As an American based company, they need to recognize the bloody history of this country and not to celebrate it.

Many cities have already made this switch: Ohio City. Akron, NY. Lewiston, NY. Phoenix. The state of Vermont. Albuquerque. Lawrence, KS. Portland, OR. St. Paul, MN. Bexar County, TX. Anadarko, OK. Olympia, WA. Alpena, MI. Seattle. Minneapolis. Berkeley. State of South Dakota. Oberlin, OH. Bangor, ME.

Google, it's time for an update.

We will be sending this petition to their corporate headquarters, we also invite you to write them a letter yourselves. We want it to get switched by this upcoming Indigenous peoples day on Monday. 10/9/2017

If you do want to write a letter, their corporate headquarters address is:

1600 Amphitheatre Parkway
Mountain View, CA 94043, USA
