Google - help suicidal people to rewind, not fast forward.
This petition had 14,030 supporters
In the last ten days, two friends of family members have committed suicide. I went online to try to better understand why they chose the methods they did. What I found shocked me.
Apart from one Lifeline ad at the top of the page, my search for "suicide" and "a method" invariably returned pages and pages of potentially lethal pro-suicide information. And only one place to get help. It's not good enough.
Imagine how many people could be helped, and saved, if Google organised search results in a way that helped people rewind and remember that help is always available?
I'm asking Google to organise information so that every search containing the word "suicide" and pro-suicide keywords returns results where every second result is a source of help.
Google has an ethical obligation to give search results that reflect the real world. In the real world, help is available 24 hours a day.
Please sign and share this petition - if enough of us take that few seconds, we will help Google to save lives.
Thanks and love,
