- I started receiving multiple messages and WhatsApp messages from unknown numbers claiming some people I know (some of them are my clients) are criminals, thiefs, armed robbers and not trustworthy. On further enquiries, I discovered that most of these people took loans from loan apps, some as low as three thousand naira only (about 60 dollars) with interest as high as 50percent for seven days and once it is just one day after the expected payment date and they are not able to meet up, these loan apps will start sending incriminating messages with pictures of their customers in a demeaning manner to all their contacts on WhatsApp and via SMS.
- WHEN THESE CASES ARE REPORTED TO GOOGLE, GOOGLE WILL TURN A BLIND EYE.
- Google is indirectly supporting blackmail, privacy invasion and character assassination by allowing these loan apps to go free. This is not fair. Such a big organisation should not be obviously supporting people that blackmail others. Any loan app that apply to list on Google play store should be prevented from accessing customers contact. If they are allowed at all, Google should instantly delete the App once a customer provides evidence they sent messages to his or her phonebook contact pending investigation but google has been turning a blind eye unless it is a celebrated case or law enforcement is involved so these people are emboldened by Google's inactivity. Rather than allowing them to access customers contact, they can ask customers to give them two phone numbers as guarantors. It is the responsibility of the Loan Apps to call the guarantors and ensure they are aware. If they default, they can call the guarantors and not all the contacts on their phonebook and WhatsApp that didn't know they took loan. This is demeaning and should be stopped. Google has no excuse for allowing these APPs to keep harrassing people. Notorious Apps in Nigeria include SOKOLOAN, SPARKLE NAIRA, CASHCLUB( fraud). etc. Some of these Apps are even frauds like the cash club . They will ask the customers to pay an upfront charges and will never give them the loan. Imagine collecting upfront of 5k from thousands of people without giving them loans. All these were reported to Google from what I heard yet Google is turning a blind eye. HELP US TO TELL GOOGLE TO STOP HELPING FRAUDSTERS HUMILIATE OUR PEOPLE.
