Full blackout of their websites on January 18th 2012 in protest of SOPA

The Issue

Not enough people realize that the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) is going to affect them. Currently, the social media website Reddit plans to go dark for a period of 12 hours on January 18th, 2012, to raise public awareness of SOPA before the bill goes to a vote on January 24th, 2012. But Reddit alone is not enough. Google and Facebook reach a much wider audience, and the shutting down of their websites will surely raise the awareness necessary to put an end to this bill.
