Why this petition matters

Started by Jennifer Bell

During the warmer months, the Goodwill thrift store at the corner of Hudson Street and North High Street becomes a hang out for motorcyclists. Almost every evening, groups of motorcyclists meet in this lot to socialize and show off their bikes by revving engines, doing donuts, burning out. Individuals speed up and down High and Hudson Streets, revving their engines. This is a great spot for them to hang out because it is the central point to major thoroughfares and entrances to highways - interstate 71 and state route 315.

The noise this creates is almost unbearable. The sound carries for blocks and blocks, and in Old North Columbus, one of Columbus' most densely populated neighborhoods, this affects the quality of life for thousands of residents.

We are asking Goodwill to stop allowing these gatherings in their parking lot by enforcing a no loitering policy. We hope this petition leads to security patrolling the lot as well as signage stating that gatherings will not be allowed. Changes to the lot itself, through barriers (chains at entrances) or speed bumps in the lot, could also discourage loiterers.
