I am writing this for any students currently within Goldsmiths halls of residence. As everyone is undoubtedly aware, COVID-19 has caused a large amount of uncertainty and, especially in light of the recent cancellation of all face to face teaching, makes it hard to justify why people would stay on campus other than to self isolate or due to international closures. It is for this reason that I, and I'm sure many others, would like to spend this frightening time with their families in whichever part of the country or world they reside, if of course this is still an option. Obviously this is not possible for everyone, however I think it is ludicrous to still insist that people pay for a whole third term of accommodation when in fact there is no longer a third term to attend. It is for this reason that I urge Goldsmiths to allow any students in student accommodation to have the choice to change the termination date of their contracts to the beginning of the third term so as to be able to move closer to their families without having to spend thousands on accommodation that wont be used.
