The Golden Globes refused to categorize the American film, Minari, in Best Drama due to its use of language other than English in the film; categories like Best Drama are reserved for "American" movies. Instead, The Golden Globes has placed Minari in the Best Foreign Language Film category, despite the director being American, the plot and story taking place in Arkansas, and the producers and production companies being American (A24, Plan B Entertainment).

In contrast, the Golden Globes had no hesitation or qualms about categorizing Inglorious Basterds in Best Drama in 2010, despite the fact that more than 70% of the dialogue was in languages other than English, and that it was filmed in France and Germany.

We all know how impactful films are in our society and culture. Decisions like this by the Golden Globes perpetuate a singular view of what it means to be American and what an American story looks like. Decisions like this by the Golden Globes further divide America, instead of unite America through film.

NBC, HFPA, A24, Plan B, those in the entertainment industry, and movie lovers -- we need to call this out and request the Golden Globes properly categorize Minari in Best Drama, where it belongs.
