Palm Beach Community against a proposed beachside petrol station

On 10 March 2017, United Petroleum lodged a development application with the Gold Coast Council to build a petrol station on the eastern side of the Gold Coast Highway and Seventeenth Avenue, Palm Beach.

If approved, this will be the closest petrol station to the beach anywhere on the Gold Coast. The boundary of the site is a few steps from the stairs to the beautiful white sand of the Palm Beach.

The proposed petrol station will significantly impact on the amenity and public enjoyment of the beach, and it will have significant noise, traffic and odour consequences for nearby residences. Visitors to the surrounding beachfront accommodation houses will be shocked. It will interfere with access to events held by the Pacific Surf Lifesaving Club, which has a significant junior and nippers program and was last year named the country’s best lifesaving club.

It is in conflict with the strategic objective of the City Plan as well as the requirements of the Service Station Code, and it is in an area zoned for residential use.

Please help the Palm Beach community to fight this harmful development and to protect the community’s enjoyment of our beautiful beach and residential areas. Every vote counts! We will present this petition to the Mayor and local councillor in advance of the Council vote on the application.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
