Every 8 seconds a child dies because of a waterborne disease. Imagine if your child was one of them. Many people know this is happening in countries like Lydia, Western Sahara, Yemen, etc. But do you know that there is also water scarcity and dirty water in Chile? What would you do if all the water shut off in your city? What if you had to walk more than 1 kilometre just for a couple of buckets of water, that aren’t even clean? This is a reality for many people in Chile. In Chile there are water systems that carry poisonous water. The poison that the water contains is called arsenic, this can cause cancer in the skin, lungs, bladder and kidney, it can also cause thickening and pigmentation of the skin. The limit for the amount of arsenic in the water is 0.01 and four of the water systems in Chile have exactly the amount 0.01 of poison in it. The mine, Mina Los Bronces Anglo American in Santiago, uses 780 litres of water per second. This mine is taking all the clean water and using it to clean the arsenic off of their minerals they mine. This process adds to the amount of arsenic in the water making it deadly poisonous. In addition it is proven that Chile is getting 10% dryer every decade. Help us by signing this petition to make the government of Chile make a policy about providing clean water to everyone. You can make a difference in someone’s life just by providing your signature. Help give people a basic need to live.
