Barbados effectively serves as a rendezvous point in the academic and professional lives of several Belizeans. The Cave Hill campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) is where most Belizeans accepted to the university decide to study for periods averaging three years. The island nation simultaneously acts as a training ground for several organizations domiciled in Belize. Evangelical churches hold their annual conferences there. Rotaract facilitates volunteer activities there. UNICEF in Belize and the Belize Meteorological Service sends its trainees to Barbados regularly. Occasionally, personnel from the Ministry of Education, the Belize Coast Guard, and the Belize Police Department also utilize Barbados for training and knowledge-exchange. Invariably, they express their disillusioned concern that there is no
consulate for Belize in Barbados.

In the realm of trade, 4% of goods imported to Barbados come from Belize, indicating an appetite for the variety of products Belize offers. This figure further reveals that there is room for bilateral improvement.

The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the already existing NEED for some type of official representation in Belize for Barbados. Someone who will assist Belizean travelers, students, and expatriates in Barbados providing the entire range of Belizean Citizen Services; including passports, marriage, deaths, births, social security benefits, and notarial services, as well as support for Belize citizens who have legal or health problems or, are in other types of urgent need. We need a dedicated BELIZEAN consular in Barbados to serve all outreach functions and maintain a citizen liaison network.
