I am a former student and I see other students struggle with math all the time. Common Core math can be very confusing sometimes and doesn’t help students learn what they should be learning. It would be much easier if the teacher showed students the less complicated ways to do math than following the confusing directions of a website. 

Students go home all the time complaint to their parents/guardians about how hard math is or how confusing it is. Obviously, parents get tired of it. Students come home with homework that they don’t understand, so they ask for help from the parent/guardian. Sometimes the adult has no idea what to do because the school system has changed over time and is teaching math differently than years ago. Then, that leaves the adult and student stumped, so they try to do the confusing work and may get it wrong. If the student gets too many answers wrong on a test then they will fail all because of complicated math that they did not understand. 

I get that the student could ask the teacher for help, but wouldn’t it be a lot easier if the math wasn’t confusing in the first place?
