Benjamin Wheeler Ady started this petition to GLS Host Site leaders and

In light of Willow Creek Association’s (WCA) cover-up of sexual abuse by their founder, Bill Hybels, over the last 4 years, we the undersigned ask all Global Leadership Summit (GLS) host site leaders to cancel hosting the GLS this year in solidarity with the victims of this abuse. We posit that the WCA is in no position to offer leadership training. We beg them: to carry out a proper independent investigation of these abuses, to lament the damage they’ve caused to victims by their cover-up, to begin to take steps towards fixing their own internal culture which allowed them to behave in this way, and to begin to make amends to the women they’ve harmed. All this rather than carrying on with offering so called “fresh, actionable, inspiring leadership content”.

A brief timeline

1975: Willow Creek Community Church (WCCC) founded by Bill Hybels, Chicago--Willowcreek.org
1992: Willow Creek Association (WCA) founded by Bill Hybels--Willowcreek.com
2014: Small group of survivors of sexual abuse by Bill Hybels and their allies approach WCCC and WCA asking them to hire Boz Tchividjian and GRACE to investigate these abuses
2014: WCCC carries out an internal “investigation” which finds Bill Hybels completely innocent. WCA board votes to not hold an independent investigation. Three WCA board members resign in protest
2014-2017: Survivors and their allies continue to pressure WCCC and WCA to properly investigate. Both WCCC and WCA refuse to do so, and carry on as usual. Bill Hybels continues as face and leader of both organisations, and is emcee of WCA’s big annual event the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) all four of these years
2018: Survivors and their allies give up on pursuing change via internal channels and go to the press. From March to August, stories of 10 survivors are published. Bill Hybels and both successor lead pastors and entire board of WCCC resign. WCA carries on as usual, holding their big annual event, the GLS, at some 500+ host sites in North America in August, and planning to hold it at an additional 500+ sites globally in October - November. Approximately 130 host sites in English speaking countries cancel hosting in solidarity with the victims.
