Reduce the speed limit on Shurdington Road & Up Hatherley Way in Cheltenham to 30mph

The 40mph speed limit of Shurdington Road from the Moorend Park Road crossroad down to the roundabout joining with and including Up Hatherley Way is inappropriate for the residential nature of the area.

A large number of houses either back onto these roads or have driveways leading onto it. The current limit poses a risk to pedestrians crossing the road to reach Warden Hill Primary School, The Brizen Young People's Centre, bus stops and post boxes, as well as residents and their guests pulling out of their driveways. A large number of joggers also regularly use the pathways along this stretch of road.

In September 2016, a four vehicle incident occurred near the pedestrian crossing and bus stop at the Kidnappers Lane junction. The number of vehicles involved in this recent incident serves to demonstrate that, even where crossings are provided, the speed of the road undoubtedly poses a risk to pedestrians and drivers alike.

If you are affected by the current speed limit on this stretch of road, please sign this petition appealing to Gloucestershire County Council to reduce the speed limit to 30mph.
