It is an everyday habit to arrive at GCIT but be stuck in traffic along Tanyard Road for minutes. The morning rush at the Tanyard Road entrance to GCIT is inefficient and dangerous. This majorly causes frequent jams that affect students, teachers, parents, buses, and cars travelling Tanyard Road. Too many vehicles trying to enter and exit the school during this busy period of the day causes long wait times and unsafe driving behavior. The solution to this problem is having an officer direct traffic during the thirty minutes of prime traffic prior to the start of school. This strategy has been put in place for the afternoon and it makes the process of exiting the school more efficient. If implemented, an officer would be equally effective for the morning traffic. 

Solution

We all want to get a few extra minutes of sleep but it's tough when you know you have to get to school early enough to beat the morning traffic. The solution is to implement a safe method for controlling traffic flow at the Tanyard Road entrance to GCIT. The afternoon traffic flows smoother than the morning because of the officer directing traffic. The officer halts the traffic on Tanyard Road to allow vehicles to exit GCIT efficiently. While this does slow traffic on the main roadway, it is necessary for getting vehicles out of the school efficiently. A similar support must be added for the morning traffic because it is frequently jammed. For fifteen to twenty minutes before the eight o’clock start of school, students and parents get caught in steady traffic before entering GCIT. The heavy traffic from both directions causes left turners to merge in with right turners making a dangerous situation. While right turns have the right of way, the amount of traffic flow creates an unreasonable wait time for a vehicle turning left. Traffic is always held up because the driveway through GCIT gets backed up. This is caused by vehicles being unable to exit through Tanyard Road with all the incoming traffic. An efficient way to control this is to put an officer at the Tanyard Road entrance to control traffic in the morning. The officer helps vehicles leave in the afternoon and it makes vehicles move more efficiently. Traffic on Tanyard Road is stopped for six to eight minutes in the afternoon but this keeps cars flowing smoothly. A slight delay in road traffic like this for the morning is worth it to make the traffic safe. There are twice as many vehicles entering in the morning as there are leaving in the afternoon and officer assistance would help them move more smoothly.
