SCRAP FINES FOR FAMILY HOLIDAYS DURING TERM TIME - NOTTINGHAMSHIRE

Parents and carers of the UK are saddened by the loss of Jon Platt in today's supreme court case. But we should not stop the fight here! In Nottinghamshire, it remains a fact that parents will get fined for taking family holidays during term time. Parents of Nottinghamshire understand the reality of affording a holiday during school holidays, whatever their socio-economic status. If we want change, we need to take our voices and make them heard.

Anyone who wants the best for their children will also agree that taking children out of school on an unlimited basis would be irresponsible without intention to appropriately home educate, which is why we are proposing to our MP, that all children should be entitled to a minimum of 1 weeks authorised absense per school year, for the purpose of a family holiday. The idea that 1 weeks holiday could impact severely on a childs learning is ridiculous when the authorities believe the 6 weeks Summer Holidays are acceptable! We believe that our children deserve the new learning experiences and opportunities that a family holiday can offer, we believe that they deserve a break from school experiences, as much as workers deserve a break from their job roles.

Current statistics show that school absences for family holidays are on the rise, and the reason is simple - Parents and Carers still save money by paying the fines! Cheaper holidays and regulated prices or fairer attendance policies are needed! WE WANT CHANGE!
