Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Southern California has been significantly affected. When considering the San Gabriel Valley, El Monte has suffered gravely as many of its residents are frontline essential workers; causing our community to struggle financially, physically, and mentally.  In signing this petition, we are offering an antidote. This petition calls upon the mayors of El Monte and South El Monte, Jessica Ancona and Gloria Olmos, to deeply consider working together and build a roller rink in one of our cities. Considerable locations could be the former Sears or Chuck E. Cheese buildings on Peck Rd as they are vacant. Other considerable locations could be the Starlight Drive In off of Rosemead and the vacant lot by the 60 Freeway or the old Cielito Lindo both on Santa Anita. Building a roller rink would create jobs, recreational use, and tourism welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds. Because roller rinks are closing across SoCal, roller skaters are left with limited options. With rollerskating as evident than ever in SoCal culture, building a roller rink would unify our communities while welcoming our neighbors.
