Climate change is accelerating. We are witnessing the increasing impacts of a warming planet more and more consistently; in this last year alone most countries have experienced record-breaking heat, droughts, and hurricanes, which impacted hundreds of thousands of people and cost hundreds of billions of dollars. Experts agree that global warming caused by humans burning fossil fuels will continue to accelerate and intensify these tragic climate disasters.

According to research commissioned by the Catholic aid agency Cafod, the UK has spent more than twice as much overseas support on fossil fuels projects as on renewable ones.

As public pressure to confront climate change builds, we call on our parliament to immediately freeze any new investment in fossil-fuel companies. Statistics, as gathered from The Overseas Development Institute shows that 46% of Britain’s £6.1bn energy spending in developing countries between 2010 and 2014 went on oil, coal and gas-fired schemes, compared with 22% for renewable energy projects. We believe such action will not only be a sound decision for our nation, but also for the wellbeing of its current and future generations.

For the good of our nation, and to preserve the quality of life for this and future generations worldwide, we call upon you to join a growing movement around the nation that is committed to preventing a more extreme climate by moving the nation endowment beyond fossil fuels as change only happens when individuals take action.
