NO to attack on our Workers Rights Act 2019

0 have signed. Let’s get to 15,000!

The Government of Mauritius passed two labour legislations in October 2019.  The Workers Rights Act and the Employment Relations Act (amended) offered a minimum protection to workers of the private sector, which is about 450 thousand. These laws were changed following a ten years struggle.

On 13 May 2020, this same government is using the pretext of Covid-19 to go along the agenda of employers, which we consider as capitalists who do not give a damn to Workers Rights.  All our acquired rights in terms of protection against lay off, local leaves, payment of overtime, payment of night shift allowance and more are under threat.

Furthermore the long awaited introduction of the Portable Retirement Gratuity Fund to.protect workers from lay off has been postponed for ever

Even the right to go on strike in some services sector will no longer be allowed when a dispute is reported to the Commission for Conciliation and Mediation. Henceforth all labour dsputes will be forthwith referred to the Employment Relations Tribunal.  This is a dramatic situation as the ERT award is binding.

Workers in Mauritius need your support to stop our Government's unprecedented attack on workers rights. In Solidarity.
