Make LGBTQ+ organisations speak up on global homophobic agendas.

This petition is aimed to place pressure on national pride organisations, to encourage them to use their platforms to educate about our history and the injustices around the globe.

Covid-19 has brought around many changes during lockdown, movements such as the Black Lives Matter Movement have come to the surface. The western world is at the forefront of global media but one issue that remains under the radar is homophobia around the world, outside of our borders.

In 75 countries, it is illegal to be gay. In 12 of those, you can be executed for being LGBTQ+. These are only some of the countries that restrict, criminalise or even enforce capital punishment, for something beyond our control:

Iran. Russia. Tanzania. Qatar. Egypt. Senegal. Bangladesh. Nigeria. Pakistan. Malaysia. The Gambia. Sudan. Somalia. Yemen.

We can, and have, chosen to ignore it for too long. No one speaks or acknowledges it. Enough is enough.

Queer people exist. Queer people have always existed. Laws protecting us haven't, and still don't in many places.

If we keep ignoring these problems, doesn't that make us part of the problem?

It is our job to expose, rectify and speak up on these homophobic injustices around the world, and to tell the stories of those who fought for our right to love and identify freely.

What can we do:

By signing this petition, we can shift the focus of pride to commemorate our community‘s history, but can fight for global equality for all members of LGBTQ+, no matter the nation they live in.

To reiterate; This petition is aimed to place pressure on national pride organisations, to encourage them to use their platforms to educate about our history and the injustices around the globe.

By signing this petition, you can make a change.

Be the change they need.
