Lacy King started this petition to Mayor Glenwood Springs City Council and

The small town appeal of Glenwood Springs is being destroyed by overdevelopment. In the last three years 800 multi-family units have been built or approved and all but 29 of those are for rental. Currently the owner of the 12.285-acre plot of land behind the West Glenwood Mall has petitioned the City of Glenwood to annex this property and R2 Partnership of Cincinnati are proposing a 360-unit development. If approved this development would bring in 1100 rental tenants (a population increase of 10% in one small plot of land).

West Glenwood is incapable of handling a development of this density with major concerns over safe evacuation when (yes WHEN) another fire, flood or rockslide occurs as well as inadequate infrastructure, density five times the size of the adjacent community, traffic congestion, pollution and over-priced rentals. During the last two wildfires our roads were gridlocked and lives could easily have been lost.

Whether you live in Glenwood Springs and are concerned about safety or overdevelopment, or you’d like to see this space be used for something more appropriate, please sign our petition to ask our City officials to advocate for smart growth practices, especially when the safety of their citizens is in question. Feel free to share this petition on social media or via email.

Together we can be Glenwood Safe – Glenwood Strong.
