Why this petition matters

Started by Arianna Perez

On Monday June 1st, 2020, Glendale Heights Police Department officer Miguel Guerrero attacked a 23-year old woman during her arrest and claimed she "bit and head-butted" the officer. This is what he has used to justify his excessive force and punching of the woman, who was left bloodied and bruised by Officer Guerrero's brutality, her blood spilled on the sidewalk underneath her while she was pinned to the ground. The person recording the viral video of this attack yelled out, "She can't breathe!" which did not stop the officer at all. The woman was taken to the hospital.

In response to this, Officer Guerrero was placed on leave. This is extremely shameful and a terrible look for the GHPD, as this proves that police brutality's punishment is merely a slap on the wrist. I am writing this petition because I believe someone who can make such a quick decision to use brutal violence should not be protecting this town. Please, sign my petition so Linda Jackson, mayor of Glendale Heights, can hear our voices and remove Miguel Guerrero from the GHPD. No one that inhumane should ever wear an officer uniform. We need to make this town a safe town for all of us, and he is a direct threat to that. Police brutality is a worldwide problem, and fixing it begins in our community.

Thank you.
