GHS Class of 2020 started this petition to Glastonbury High School

With the COVID-19 pandemic, daily life in Glastonbury has been completely changed. This change has mainly effected the GHS class of 2020. Everything the senior class has looked forward to the last 13 years of their life has been canceled, including their senior ball, picnic, and possibly their graduation. The seniors never got the opportunity to say goodbye to the classmates they grew up with.

All the seniors ask for in order to remedy this situation is for their classes for the remainder of the academic year to be canceled. They have all made post-graduation plans; therefore, this change will not affect their futures. Many seniors are busy working and dealing with many issues outside of school (like finding ways to afford college now that the stock market has crashed or taking care of their families). It does not help that the teachers have been disregarding the guidelines set out by the Board of Education. Classes are far exceeding 25 minutes a day, and many courses are still having final exams. All of this has been putting the mental health of the seniors at risk.

This should have been a time for seniors to celebrate all of their hard work and end their time with Glastonbury Public Schools in a positive light. Since we can not give back what was taken away from the seniors, we should at least allow them the privilege to be exempt from their classes. This will give the seniors a little bit of happiness in a difficult time for all of them. Thank you.
