SAVE ST MUNGO’S MUSEUM!

As the City of Glasgow recovers from Covid, Glasgow Life is considering the future of the Cathedral precinct which includes St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art. There is a danger that future developments could lead to the Museum’s closure or repurposing.
St Mungo’s was setup in 1993 with support from the various faith communities in the city to “promote mutual understanding and respect between people of different faiths and none”. Over the years it has fulfilled this mission, working with people of all religion and belief backgrounds to promote good relations and to challenge discrimination and racism.
Beloved by the people of Glasgow, St Mungo’s also has an outstanding international reputation and been used as a model for the creation of other museums of religion throughout the world.
It is imperative that Glasgow does not lose this highly respected resource nor that the nature of it be changed so much that it no longer reflects the multi-faith nature of our society and is hampered in its work to promote good interfaith and intercultural relations.
Please sign this petition asking Glasgow Life for assurances that:
- St Mungo’s will continue its valuable work representing diverse faith traditions and promoting good relations between communities.
- Stakeholders from Glasgow’s diverse religious communities, interfaith organisations, and anti-sectarian organisations will be consulted in continuing discussions regarding future developments.
Thank you for your support!
