For too long racism has been present in Glasgow,  many streets in Glasgow are named after wealthy racists who made their  money due to exploitation. As a city that believes in equality and diversity, people need to be educated on atrocities we commited as a nation and names such Andrew Buchanan should not be glorified as their wealth was built on racism. It's our duty as human beings to be respectful of others, no matter their skin colour.

History

Buchanan Street in Glasgow was named after Andrew Buchanan former lord provost of Glasgow . He was in fact the owner of a large tobacco empire that existed in Virginia, America. Buchanan used slavery as way of maximizing profit.

If we as a city want to make a difference then we shouldnt glorify racist acts. People need to educated on the role Glasgow had in the slave trade, and this is one thing Glasgow can do to show it's solidarity against racism which still occurs today
