One janitor one school

As parents and carers of children attending schools within Glasgow CIty Council would like to bring to your attention some reforms being proposed by Cordia/ Glasgow City Council which will drastically affect our school janitorial provision.
Cordia have recently announced proposals which would involve cutting the number of janitors in the city. This would involve 5 or 6 janitors covering eight schools. Furthermore, janitors would also be asked to take on additional duties. This will see janitors having to work across several schools in a single day and requests being put in place for janitorial support – therefore having to wait or put on hold repairs, cleaning etc. until a janitor can attend.
The current system is One School – One Janitor. There is obviously the very real risk of schools losing their current janitor, who not only look after our schools and playgrounds but keep our children safe and secure. They are the ones who clean up the sick (and all the other awful messes our lovely children leave behind them!), clear the snow and ice, test fire alarms, clean up hazardous materials such as broken glass, supervising our children at playtime, not to mention heating and securing our school and surrounding area to make the children’s learning environment safe and secure. The proposed cluster model would leave schools without a janitor at certain points of the day compromising so many aspects of health, safety and security.
Please help us stop this happening by signing this petition and raising awareness of this situation.
