This year, for the first time in a decade, the West End Festival will not be featuring what many see as the main event, the opening parade and Festival Sunday. Spiraling costs and charges from the Council and issues about drinking in Kelvingrove Park have contributed to this. The West End Festival does not enjoy the cash support from the Council that other events (eg Mela) do, and we would urge you to contact Glasgow City Council and ask what can be done to bring back this tremendously popular community event that seems to attract attention from all over the UK. Hopefully we can then get it back next year! Glasgow is gradually losing its great cultural events to red tape.
We are asking the Council to give WEF the support the festival needs, and in general to try harder to support creativity and celebration in public spaces!
