An open letter to Gladys Berejiklian

Dear Gladys

The news of your resignation has stunned us. At a time when light appeared at the end of the tunnel, this news and our reaction, feels like the final straw.  The weight of NSW’s challenges, from drought to bushfire, a pandemic and lockdown, have bubbled into this moment with waves of anger, disbelief and despair.  Throughout your Premiership, you provided a pillar of strength, a model of resilience, an example of discipline, and an epitome of service.  There was a sense that if we worked together and followed your team's guidance, that everything, eventually, would be okay.  All along, for those living in NSW, we knew someone was on our side, regardless of what the day might bring, we had a leader who rose each day, to do her best for the people of NSW.  

We have seen you work tirelessly to steer us through challenging times. We knew when we were exhausted and couldn’t see a way out that you were doing everything you could to find that path. You showed up every day for us. It may have felt like a thankless task but please know that every day, we thanked goodness for you. 

Your leadership is still needed.  And we wish to celebrate our arrival on the other side of this pandemic with you. It is our turn now to support you.  We understand you need to step aside.  However, now is not the time for you to walk away.  Please don’t leave NSW Parliament.
