Gladwyne Montessori has operated for over 50 years from its current location and is fully committed to its presence in Gladwyne Village. The Merion Square building is the core of the Gladwyne historic district, serving as the largest single structure with this designation in the village, and has been for over 100 years.
What is our plan?
More On-Site Parking, Better Space Utilization, Safe Playgrounds and An Orchard
Simply put, our goal is to ensure the safety of young children and local residents, reduce traffic and on-street parking and enhance the environment surrounding the school.
The undersigned supports the application of Gladwyne Montessori School to the Zoning Hearing Board for a special exception to permit the consolidation of 922, 908, a portion of 900 Youngs Ford Road, and 941 Black Rock Road with its existing campus and the following improvements:
- Increasing parking from 49 to 78 spaces
- Providing 24 additional overflow spaces on a hard surface play area
- Increasing the length of the drop-off and pick-up queue from 24 to 40 spaces
- Addition at the rear of the Savett building and enclosure of existing porch
- Welcoming gazebo
- Relocated playground and nature play area
- U-8 play field
- Orchard, garden, and greenhouse
I also understand Gladwyne Montessori School proposes to increase its faculty and staff from 50 to 63, add an infant program for children ages six weeks to twenty-three months old, and add a summer teacher education program. Gladwyne Montessori School is a valued part of the Gladwyne Village community. The improvements proposed will benefit not only the School but also our community.
