PETITION TO GLADSTONE REGIONAL COUNCIL TO REVIEW AGNES WATER MAIN BEACH DOG ACCESS

Agnes Water Main Beach dogs off leash regulation requires dog exercising off leash to be north of the Surf Club beach entrance marker SS1, some 1.5 kilometres from safest beach access point at Tom Jeffrey Park.
Many people were unaware of the creation of this regulation or the reason for the change from the existing regulation though there is concern in the community over rampant dog roaming about the town and this has been reported to include the main beach and properties in that vicinity.
That being the case, responsible dog owners do support and applaud Council efforts to control dogs and where necessary owners with dogs not under control whilst acknowledging that efforts can be better directed.
We do request that in the new regulation being a significant change for many residents and visitors Council do give consideration for many older people, some having health impairments that could be aggravated by lengthy walking or accessing the beach at more difficult areas.
The hard copy of this petition to be forwarded to Gladstone Regional Council and email advice to Councillors will have an addendum with more detail.
