More childminders and Early Years practitioners need training to look after children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Parents and carers of children with SEND struggle to find quality childcare and early years education for their children, which can be detrimental to the children's development.

“The total number of children with education, health and care plans (EHCPs) has increased by more than 40,000 over the last year, latest figures from the Department for Education show” (Children & Young People Now, 2022).

There is an increasing number of children with SEND every year and recent figures are predicting a further dramatic increase.

The lack of SEND training for childminders and early years practitioners can prevent willing parents from returning to work and can leave home-schooling as their only option.
