We the people, believe that Cedric Bell Sr., William Bennet SR., and Letay Roundtree should be allowed to continue serving our community by coaching youth sports. These men have proven to be consistent at building the minds of our youth, through competitive opportunities while reinforcing positive values. We recognize the mistakes they’ve made in their past and understand the policies regarding the background checks. However, we ask that an exception be made based on the evidence of their consistency, positive impact, and their actions while serving our community.

Prior to the new director accepting the position of chairman, these men were granted youth coaching positions despite their past. These men were granted the opportunity because of their character and commitment to making a difference in our children’s lives. They are actively motivating the next generation with an unwavering mission to prevent kids from making similar mistakes. Are these not the type of leaders we need in our community? Are the results that have been seen in our children under their guidance not the results we want? We as a community are not searching for perfection in our leaders. What has proven to be historically effective traits in our role models are, individuals who acknowledge their mistakes and hold themselves accountable for their actions. They have been given the opportunity to contribute to our community through service and as a result, they have shown us who they really are and more importantly, who they want to continue to be. In turn, they have earned our support with their ongoing efforts and have shown that they are trustworthy in their respective roles in shaping the trajectory of our next generation. We the people, we as a community, acknowledge their progress and impact and ask respectfully that the city of Waynesboro allow these men to continue to coach and support these leaders as they have supported us.
