Give Greenville SC a public skatepark at Monaghan Mill Textile Heritage Park!
With the removal of Poe Mill skate park from our community, our city is in desperate need of replacement of this type of free recreational park.
Blocks away from the Poe Mill location, we have an incomplete park that would serve well as a replacement location For our displaced skaters and BMX bicyclists. 2015, Greenville Revitalization Corporation was gifted 6 acres of abandoned parking lot of the historical Monaghan Mill. There has been some effort to make a community park with the land, but it has since remained incomplete. There is fantastic parking, a small (hardly used) newish playground, an attempt at a community garden, and a walking path with Memorials that pay homage to the historical Mills of the Greenville area. Our community needs for Greenville Revitalization Corporation to team up with Greenville County Recreation, to allow for the creation of a public free space for our community to safely recreate outdoors, for skating, skateboarding, and riding BMX bikes. As the Greenville area has benefited greatly from our petitions to bring the swamp rabbit trail, this area would also greatly benefit from this addition to our community. Skateboarding is, after all, one of the fastest growing sports in the world at the moment.
