Give 2B Track and Field back their 4 allocations for the state finals
The 2B classification has lost 4 of its 16 bids to state bringing down the number of student/athletes to 12.
The reason they give is because a school didn’t get their complete number of athletes entered in a timely manner(which no one is arguing). They now list 2B as 49/50 schools, and that somehow means roughly 60+ kids are now gone from the 2B state finals.
They claim they do not have the volunteers but also at the site for state finals there will be 1A and 1B competing with 16 allocations each. So I’m calling BS on the not enough volunteers.
The last two years there have been no state finals for spring sports and now that we finally have our moment in the spotlight once again, it’s taken away from the student/athletes.
Please sign this in support of changing WIAA’s stance on the matter and that they make the right decision instead of the easy way out.
Right now only 2 boys and 3 girls move on in each event instead of 4 and 4 in District 5 will not get their chance to go to state for track in every race District 5 schools are Mabton, Granger, Highland, Goldendale, Cle Elum, Kittitas, White Swan, WWVA, Tri City Prep, Riverview, Burbank, Dayton, Warden. 9 of these schools are considered high poverty schools by the state. In a state preaching equity WIAA is missing the mark on this one.
