Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois: Save Camp L-Kee-Ta

Camp L-Kee-Ta is a rustic camp experience for young girls and young women in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. The Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois want to sell all four of their camps because they say girls just aren't interested anymore. But should we be letting these young girls decide? In this modern, technological world, parents and leaders should be encouraging children to experience the out-of-doors more often. Research shows that being out-of-doors in a natural setting is better for our health, both physically and emotionally. Camp L-Kee-Ta offers opportunities to make new friends, learn new skills, and experience nature in a way that few other places can. Every child should experience summer camp, and it frightens me that organizations like the Girl Scouts (who I respect tremendously) are considering taking away that opportunity for good.
