Yesterday (8.18.17), the board of GSHPA announced that it will be retaining ten acres of Camp Furnace Hills surrounding the Foxfire area. The board will decide in November what to do with the remaining acreage.

This decision was a positive outcome for the short-term. The negative outcome we were working to avoid was to make sure the board did not decide to immediately sell Camp Furnace Hills.

We were surprised and pleased to see that they at least committed to keeping the 10 acres, but THIS IS NOT ENOUGH.

We now have time and space to organize and push forward. All of the flurry over the last two weeks was a push to prevent the "sell now" decision.

Over the next week we will undoubtedly begin to coalesce and organize into what is a much larger much broader and much more coordinated effort. If the council was taken back and felt pressured by these recent efforts then they will be spinning circles trying to manage a much more concerted effort and frankly parallel efforts supporting five other camps.
