In recent years Arundel High School in Anne Arundel County, Maryland has had an hour long Pride Period. This period included two halves and allowed students to participate in clubs, eat lunch, and get help from teachers. However, many students would wander the halls during this time which is against school rules. In response administration has changed the schedule to a 30 minute break between first and second period and a lunch break before, during, or after third period, depending on the subject you're in. This new schedule has caused many students to choose between clubs they have done in previous years because they can only go to one a day. Also they can only visit one teacher a day, so if a student is absent one day it will take them four days to visit each class they missed. And it is very difficult to make up an hour long test in 30 minutes. During each of the three lunch breaks, one third of the school's population is crammed into the cafeteria. It gets crowded and noisy which makes more students inclined to wander the halls. I believe that this new schedule will do more harm than good. There are better ways to deal with the issue of wanderers. The actions of a few wandering students should not result in the punishment of the whole student body.
