Abusing the homeless has horrifyingly turned into a sport, and it is time to stand up for society's most marginalised minority. It's time to call it what it is: a hate crime

Brighton streets have become ridden with abuse. With the second highest population of rough sleepers, and with the highest density of nightclubs in the UK, homeless people on our streets are subject to various forms of social ridicule and inhumane treatment.

Picture this: it's 3am and you're sitting in a doorway that has now become your home. Then suddenly, a loud group approaches you and starts probing your belongings, kicking them around-they're clearly drunk. They start mocking you, mocking your survival. It doesn't stop there, you see one of them urinating in your space. You just want them to leave your home alone.

If you had a home you could kick them out, lock your door. But you're not that lucky.

Society's most vulnerable need your urgent help. It's time to give rough sleepers the dignity they deserve and the humanity that keeps being taken away from them.

Assaulting and abusing the homeless is a crime motivated by prejudice, and it is time to treat it as such.
