I along with other students find the Greenville High School’s “Senior” pep rally to be wrongly labeled and biased. The Seniors that are aloud to participate in the pep rally have to be in one of the following: Cheer, Flashes, Football, JROTC, Band, Volleyball, Softball, Baseball, Track, Powerlifting, Cross Country, Soccer, Golf, Tennis, Basketball, or Athletic Training. What about Robotics, FFA, Solar Car, Culinary, Art Club, Choir, One Act, StuCo and the other incredible programs that we have going on at our high school? Allegedly they aren’t included in the pep rally because they are not “school sponsored organizations” (which was told to me by a credible teacher) but what makes Flashes or ROTC any more “school funded” than the other things? To even be a Flash you have to pay hundreds of dollars and JROTC gets part of it’s funding from the Navy, some coaches of the sports listed in the “allowed to participate” group have to pay out of their own pockets to support the team and have fundraisers because they receive little funding from the school. When I was told that it was only for school sponsored organizations I was taken aback, why did the other seniors who work just as hard and tirelessly not get appreciated? Some would argue “well if we show cased everyone it would make the pep rally longer than 30 minutes” however if they truly wanted to shine spotlight on the seniors they would have a bigger pep rally like on the football field, maybe even invite the community to see what amazing people it has raised up. I am not alone in feeling unappreciated over this and other students have agreed that there needs to be a change.
