Cleaner and safer public transportation systems in Hyderabad

Cleaner and safer public transportation systems in Hyderabad
Petition Statement: We, the citizens of Hyderabad, petition the GHMC, transportation department, and Chief Minister of Hyderabad to make the public transportation options in the city of Hyderabad cleaner and safer. Doing this will allow us to reduce our contributions to climate change along with displaying sustainable positive change in the city of Hyderabad.
Supporting Detail: Every day, more and more pollutants are released into the atmosphere. These pollutants contribute to climate change and reduce the chances of future generations having a safer and healthier environment to live in. Together we can reduce our contribution to climate change and bring change to our city.
One of the biggest contributing factors to air pollution is carbon emissions from automobiles. In a city like Hyderabad, with so many people, it is very common for people to use personal cars rather than public transportation. People tend to use personal vehicles because they find them more comfortable and convenient. However, if we continue to do this, scientists warned that the Earth could cross the global warming threshold by 2030.
Only 33% of Hyderabad’s population uses public transport. The government is working on increasing this number so that our air can be cleaner. So far, the Telangana government has encouraged citizens to move towards electric vehicles but there have not been any official policies launched for this to be successful. The government has also been working on getting its public transport system to run on clean energy to reduce carbon emissions. However, there have been challenges to achieving the clean energy transition, such as lack of space or high dependency on thermal energy. As of right now, the government is still working on better and faster ways to get the city buses to run completely on clean energy.
Something else that they should do is makes our public transportation options cleaner and easier to use. As of right now, the public transportation options in Hyderabad include RTC buses, taxis, autos, the metro, and railways. Even though these options are all very cheap and pretty available, they are not as safe and hygienic. Because of this, many citizens find it more convenient to use their own transportation, which leads to more carbon emissions. To increase the rates of usage in public transportation, the government needs to make our transportation systems cleaner and safer.
As the government works on this, we as citizens of Hyderabad can come together to pledge to use public transportation more and overall take small actions every day to reduce our personal carbon footprint. We can start to carpool more often, bike, or even walk to more places. All these actions may seem very minor at the moment, however, as time goes on and more people start to use public transportation and make small changes, the world will be a safer and healthier place for it. Our future generations will be able to live in a safer and healthier world, thanks to the changes that we make today.
By signing this petition, you will be taking one step to reduce your contribution to climate change and help make the world a better place.
