Presidential debates, although not compulsory, have been one of the prior “shows” before general elections in Ghana.

Whiles a section of the population’s votes are based on material or physical achievements, another section also vote based on the cognitive capabilities of the candidates, that is, listing their achievements, explaining the motives behind them, defending questions and projecting the next way forward.

A part of the Ghanaian populace who call themselves “floating voters” usually make decisions after witnessing the Presidential candidates debate.

Over the years and unfortunately, most Ghanaians have voted on tribal lines and partisan affiliation and we believe Ghana and the world at large is “overly civilized” to still get stuck to this antique style.

Significant number of Ghanaians have raised concerns about the need for this debate hence effectuation of this debate would not only help some Ghanaians to make decisions but would also confer great honor and respect on Ghanaians if the Presidential candidates agree to this debate. After all this is not the first time.

As part of the Covid 19 protocols, this event could be held as virtual one. Over the years Ghanaians have enjoyed this event which runs late night to midnight without a blink of the eye. It tells how serious Ghanaians take this program. The tradition must never stop for whatever reason.
