Petition Closed

CONCERNED NATIONAL SERVICE PERSONNEL – 2013/2014 YEAR GROUP

1ST NOVEMBER, 2013.

Dear Sir,

PETITION FOR A MINIMUM OF 50% UPWARD ADJUSTMENT OF NATIONAL SERVICE ALLOWANCES FOR 2013/2014

At the commencement of the 2013/2014 service year, our appointment letters issued indicated that we were to receive an amount of GHC243.48 as allowances.

However, there has been a 100% increment in the special levy charged each national service person, which is; from GHC20 to GHC40. Though, there has not been a commensurate increase in allowances.

To add to that, the prevailing economic climate coupled with hikes in fuel and utility bills buttress our stance on the need for an immediate upward adjustment of the GHC243.48 paid to us.

We duly appreciate the decision of the Secretariat as regards to the 100% increment of our levy. We therefore appeal, that there should be a corresponding upward adjustment so as to ‘keep our heads above water’.

We heard the Public Relations Officer of the National Service Scheme in an interview on TV3 and Radio Universe (105.7 fm) few days after the postings were released. He indicated that there will be an increment in our allowances. We humbly propose that a minimum of 50% increment be favourably considered. We also appeal that the increment should be backdated to September so that we will recoup the arrears when payment is made.

We also wish to bring to your urgent attention that approximately two months after posting many of us are yet to receive our ID cards as well as our bank accounts which would enable us access our allowances.

We hereby re-affirm our commitment to sacrifice for our nation. However, some of these motivational packages are imperative to urge us on to greater sacrifices.

We do anticipate an early response to alleviate our plight.
