At the moment the council is funding and creating a new skatepark, and for most of the mountain biking community here in Tauranga would like to have that same provision. The trails in Tauranga have not been updated for years and have little to no maintenance making the only trails that are worth to ride in Rotorua, witch is expensive and difficult for the growing younger mountain biking community to access. For me the ideal situation is council makes available some of its land for the creation of mountain biking trails. I would like the council to take responsibility to build or fund the creation of a few trails to kick-start a new mountain biking park and the community will continue creation of other trails. This is so it won't degrade like Oropi where none of the proper trails are maintained and the people decide to take it into their own hands and make illegal trails. The mountain biking community wish for this petition to help push the council towards making Tauranga a more mountain biking friendly place for all ages and skill levels of people.
