Get Servant of the People back on Netflix!
On the 24th of February, 2022, Russia began a large-scale invasion into the neighboring, sovereign country of Ukraine. In an incredibly bold, brave move, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy decided to remain in Ukrainian’s capital city, Kyiv, and fight alongside his soldiers, even refusing an evacuation offer from the United States, saying “the fight is here. I need ammunition, not a ride.” Now, nearly a week later, President Zelenskyy has even further exemplified what it means to be a truly great world leader, and an inspiration to not only Ukrainian people, but people the world over.
A large part of Zelenskyy’s likability doesn’t just come from his determination to lead his people well, it also comes from his background as a former comedian and actor, particularly when he wrote and starred in the Ukrainian television show “Servant of the People”, in which he played a history teacher, who, after he is unknowingly filmed going on a politically charged rant by a student, suddenly becomes the new President. While the show has begun airing again in the UK and other countries again during this conflict, it is currently unavailable (at least with decent subtitles) for viewers in the United States. To the best of my knowledge, I believe the show used to be on Netflix a few years back, but has since been removed.
This petition implores Netflix to pick up Seasons 1 and 2 of “Servant of the People”, so that they can be watched by many as both as a morale booster during these troubled times, and to bring further awareness to the crisis currently happening in Ukraine.
