Teach the Armenian Genocide to prevent racism

In a TCDSB school in North York in the 2016-2017 year a grade 6 school teacher showed a video to her class on the Armenian Genocide. It was perfectly appropriate for the 6th Grade and no one was against showing it. Half way through the main teacher had to leave so another one was pulled from their class. The Spec. Ed teacher. She took over the room then after 1 minute she said "Turn it off" I asked why (Not trying to be rude) she responds by raising her voice and saying "I am in here now so you listen to my orders!!" so instead of making more of a problem I turned it off. She knew very well that that is what our teacher wanted us to see. (Its not like we were making up the fact we had to watch it) By the next day our teacher returned and I told her what had happened and she said she would ask her what happened. Later our teacher tells me what she said. Apparently the Spec. Ed teacher's response was not clear but then I asked her if she apologized or anything like that. But she didn't. One week later the teacher was never to return to the school. The next year she was replaced with a new Spec. Ed teacher but just because she is gone does not mean the problem is solved.

The fact that this happened in a school (Where there should be learning and respect, Not someone saying... yeah.. that genocide attempt well I don't really care about them.) is very inappropriate.

If this petition reaches its goal this will be brought to the attention of the school's administrator and a assembly will held for grade 7s and 8s to show them what happened during this horrific event.

Finally, The reason why it was even considered to teach this subject to students is because Armenian students were being bullied over the genocide. Your signature could potentially stop bullying.
