At JCMS, there is a class called FLEX. The class is supposed to help us learn extra things outside of class, but nobody is getting any benefit out of it. It also limits the amount of electives we JCMS students can take, and it is that class that is causing the 8th-grade choir to have to combine with another grade's choir next year.

Some of the current 7th-grade choir students are leaving choir because they want to do other electives next year, which means there will be too few students in the future 8th-grade choir to have a separate class. If FLEX was done away with, the 8th-grade choir could stay separate from the rest.

The class is really only being kept because the school has to do SEL once a week, a program that is supposed to help the students manage mental health. The thing is, SEL could be thrown in at the beginning of 1st period or the end of 7th period on Fridays instead.

In the FLEX periods that are supposed to be study time for certain subjects, we're either reviewing things we learned and already know, or we just have a study hall period. It is just useless and doesn't need to be kept. Please sign the petition for JCMS to get rid of FLEX!
