As a teenager 50 years ago I was a victim of bullying at school because I was ginger and chubby.  However, once I got home, I was safe from my persecutors.  We only had a landline and I couldn’t be targeted at home. Thankfully I had a loving family and, although it upset me and I hated school, I wasn’t too emotionally scarred by my persecutors.

Sadly since the inception of texts, emails, Facebook, Messenger, SnapChat and WhatsApp, victims of bullying, be it at school or in the workplace, cannot ESCAPE the ABUSE and the number of suicides are rising.

It’s high time that the perpetrators of online abuse which results in a victim taking their own life be brought to justice in the Courts. 

People who cause death by dangerous driving or death following a physical assault are charged and sentenced in the Courts. 

However, those who cause death by a continual sustained barrage of online abuse get away virtually free of blame. If someone can strip another human being of every shred of their emotional well-being which renders that person feeling there is nothing left to live for and which causes them to take their own life, they are just as guilty of causing that person’s death as if they had physically assaulted them. 


The law needs to change now because too many people feel their lives are not worth living after being persecuted online.
