Counsellors in Schools

Counsellors in Schools
Why this petition matters

As a mother, I think every school in the UK should have compulsory, trained, counsellors available on site Monday - Friday for all pupils to access. Both primary and secondary schools.
The “support” we have received at my child's school has been below par and delivered by someone with no mental health qualifications, and therefore little understanding which can be potentially harmful. As our mental health sector is under so much stress, our children are missing out on vital mental health support.
Some children may not have a strong support network at home and speaking to someone during school time may be their only source of support. I want children to be given the tools necessary to grow up with resilience and strength. This is my goal.
Pastoral care workers in schools do not need to have any kind of formal qualifications or training, which can be potentially harmful. They do not always seem to fully comprehend a child's emotional needs.
Counsellors can make an important contribution to supporting the emotional health and mental well-being of students. A trained, listening ear could make such a difference to pupils going through difficult times.
