Why this petition matters
As a young citizen of america i do belive that that it is our right to breath clean air, So that younger generations dont have to stress out and deal with the after math of this devestation . To give a little bit of information about me, I am a middle school student who loves nature and feels that the earth is very important i also feel that polution is a big problem that we, the people of america should be focasing on as well. if we dont take action on the problemss that are happening in the world no ones going to do anything about it and eventually pollution may be what takes humanity out. we need to win back our rights for clean air and get the clean air act back.
if you dont know what the clean air act is ill give a little bit of information about the act. According to the EPA ( the united states enviromental protection agencey) "The Clean Air Act (CAA) is the comprehensive federal law that regulates air emissions from stationary and mobile sources. Among other things, this law authorizes EPA to establish National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) to protect public health and public welfare and to regulate emissions of hazardous air pollutants." some bennifets that the act has provided include lowar levels of 6 comman pollutants which enclude particles, ozone, lead, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide. This act has allowed the people of america to breathe in less pollution and face lower risks of health problems in the future.
if you are curious on why the clean air act was overturned ill give a little bit of informantion.
As of june 24th 2022 the clean air act was overturned by a 6-3 vote. According to france 24 "the court said that the Clean Air Act does not give the Environmental Protection Agency broad authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants that contribute to global warming. The decision, said environmental advocates and dissenting liberal justices, was a major step in the wrong direction “a gut punch,” one prominent meteorologist said at a time of increasing environmental damage attributable to climate change amongst dire warnings about the future. The court’s ruling could complicate the administration’s plans to combat climate change. Its detailed proposal to regulate power plant emissions is expected by the end of the year. Though the decision was specific to the EPA, it was in line with the conservative majority’s skepticism of the power of regulatory agencies and it sent a message on possible future effects beyond climate change and air pollution."
